What is network marketing? Network marketing is a way for “regular” people to start a business, a home-based business, with minimum start-up and overhead costs. The company that you align with takes on the expenses and risks of product development and handles all of the inventory, payment processing and order fulfillment activities. You are only responsible for sharing the products and business opportunity with others to generate orders. The company then cuts you a check for your share of the revenue that you generate.
Why Network Marketing?
There are many reasons that people start a network marketing business. For me it was because I wanted to be home with my kids. Fathers, and often mothers now too, miss out on their kids growing up because they are always away at work. If you have a half hour commute each way to your job and an hour for lunch, you are gone from home ten hours every day. Someone else is raising your kids. For a lot of families it is the people at the daycare center who are raising your kids. That wasn’t good enough for me, so I looked for something else and found network marketing.
Some people see a network marketing business as a solution for retirement. They see that they will never be able to make enough money in a job to afford retirement. They don’t make enough money to be able to save, a pension can go away if the company fails, and a 401k is tied to the volatility of the stock market and disappears in a market crash. Your retirement is tied to circumstances outside of your control. Network marketing can put you back into control of your income and your retirement. If you want to make more money, you move more product. It’s that simple.
How Network Marketing Works
You find a company with products that you like and can feel good about using and sharing with other people, then sign up. There will usually be a small fee to join and setup your distributorship and maybe a few other expenses. It shouldn’t be too expensive, probably between forty and a few hundred dollars depending on the company and the products they offer.
Now you are a distributor, so get to know the products and share them with people. This is probably where you say that you “can’t sell” or are uncomfortable with selling. That’s because you don’t really understand that you have been selling from the moment you were born. Any time that you shared an idea you were selling that idea. You might want to convince your spouse or a friend to go to a particular restaurant, see a movie, or watch a certain show on television. That’s selling. Have you ever gone on an interview? You are selling yourself as the best candidate for the job you are interviewing for. For that sell you even have to prepare some marketing material in the form of a resume. Selling in network marketing is a lot easier than an interview.
Building Your Team
With network marketing, your income comes from moving product, but you don’t have to do all of it yourself. The more people who join your team, the more product your team can move, the more income you can generate.
That’s what I am doing here, introducing you to the idea of network marketing, the opportunity to start your own business to generate your own income either to supplement or replace your existing income and set up the lifestyle that you want.
