Here is a list of the plugins that I use.
Akismet by Automattic – Comes pre-installed with WordPress and just needs to be activated. This plugin does an amazing job and weeding out spam so you don’t have to.
All in One SEO Pack by Michael Torbert – Helps you to get the necessary description and keyword meta tags on your pages so that they get ranked by the search engines.
Better Tag Cloud by Nicolas Kuttler – Displays your post tags in the right sidebar so that people can find posts they are interested in more easily. This plugin widget gives you better control than the one that comes with WordPress by default.
CommentLuv by Andy Bailey – Encourages your readers to leave comments by automatically plugging their most recent post on their blog.
Comment Reply Notification by denishua – Automatically notifies the author of a comment when they receive a reply.
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator by Dagon Design – Create and automatically update your sitemap. This gives your visitors another way to find the content they are looking for.
Do Follow by Denis de Bernardy – Removes the “no-follow” attribute from links in comments. Helps to encourage visitors to leave comments.
Exclude Pages from Navigation by Simon Wheatley – Helps to hide pages that you want to be private, like newsletters that your readers sign up for.
Fast Secure Contact Form by Mike Challis – Creates a contact form so that your visitors can contact you if they want to.
Flexi Pages Widget by Srini G – Widget to create a drop-down list of pages in the sidebar.
Google Analyticator by Ronald Heft – Handles the Google Analytics code
Google XML Sitemaps by Arne Brachhold – Creates an XML sitemap for the search engines and automatically submits updates to Google, Yahoo, Ask, and Bing.
Hana FLV Player by HanaDaddy – Easy way to embed your own .flv videos in your blog posts.
Homepage Excerpts by http://www.dailyblogtips.com – Show only excerpts of your posts on the home page. This gets your readers to go to the single post page where they will also be able to leave a comment. Note that this plugin is not available through WordPress like the others. Go to the link to download it.
Section Widget by Godfrey Chan (UBC OLT) – A widget that allows you to show content in the sidebar of specific pages based on tags or categories.
SEO-Tool – Keyword Density Checker by Alexander Muller – See what keywords and phrases have better density in your content. Helps you make sure that your targeted keywords are dense enough for the search engines to rank the pages.
Simply Exclude by Paul Menard – Takes care of another part of hiding pages that you don’t want your readers to find easily, such as a newsletter that they should subscribe to.
Sociable by Blogplay – Adds icons for the social sites so that your readers can easily share your content.
Top Commentators Widget by Lorna Timbah – Sidebar widget to show off the people who comment the most on your blog. Helps to encourage your readers to leave comments by giving them credit and exposure.
TweetMeme Retweet Button by TweetMeme – Allow your readers to easily retweet your posts on Twitter.
Twitter Tools by Crowd Favorite – Automatically tweet your posts on Twitter when you publish them.
Twitter Tools: Bit.ly Links by Viper007Bond – Add-on to Twitter Tools to get it to use bit.ly to shorten your URL. Bit.ly allows you to track traffic, so it helps you see how effective your posts are on Twitter.
What Would Seth Godin Do by Richard K Miller – Encourage your readers to subscribe to your RSS feed.
WordPress Database Backup by Austin Matzko – Back up your WordPress database just in case something bad happens with the server that hosts your blog.
Yet Another Related Post Plugin by mitcho (Michael Yoshitaka Erlewine) – Helps to encourage your readers to stay longer by suggesting other posts you have written on the same topic.
YQL Auto Tagger by Roger Stringer – Suggests tags for you to add to your posts.
YW Analytics by Wayne Woodworth – More accurate traffic reporting than Google Analytics because this isn’t dependent on JavaScript. Also handles redirects so that they count in your traffic. Not available through WordPress and very much a work-in-progress.
YW Aweber Form by Wayne Woodworth – Wraps an Aweber form so that WordPress doesn’t mess it up by reformatting the code. Not available through WordPress
YW Buy Now by Wayne Woodworth – Quickly and easily adds a “buy now” button to pictures. Not available through WordPress
YW Recent Posts by Wayne Woodworth – Show recent posts that are relevant to the current static page. Not available through WordPress and very much a work-in-progress.
