How to Create a Page – Checklist

These are the steps that I go through to create a page on my WordPress blog. I also created a handy checklist that you can use if you like.

Keyword Research

It is always a good idea to find out the words that people use to search for the topic that you are writing about. The first step to writing either a post or a page because you want to make sure that you have good keywords embedded in your content.

Create the Page and Add Content

Now it is time to go into your WordPress dashboard and create your new page. Keep in mind the keywords that you found so that you can use those words and phrases in your content.

Make the Page Pretty

You can make your page a little easier to read by adding headings and by bolding some of your words. This is also a good way to let the search engines know what is important on your page so that you rank higher for your keywords.

Add Pictures

People like to see pictures, especially of the product if you are selling something. They also help to break up the text and make it easier to read. Pictures also give you additional places to  add your keywords (the title attribute and the alt attribute) so that your page can rank higher in the search engines.

Add Links

Links are important on a page for multiple reasons. It is always a good idea to link to sites that have additional information to back up any claims that you make, such as medical studies. You also want to link to the product that you are promoting on the page so that you can make money.  When linking to the Nikken PWP site it is a good idea to create a redirect page first then link to your redirect page.

1. Get the link that you want to redirect to, probably from your PWP back office.
2. Create a new page for your redirect. It needs a title, a parent, and the URL to redirect to
3. Publish the page
4. Copy the entire permalink starting at “http://…”
5. Edit the content page that will use the redirect link and add this copied link instead of the direct link to the PWP

Add the Meta Tags

The next step is to fill out the All-In-One-SEO Pack information. The first field, the title, is a good place to put our Nikken keywords. Add a description that is somewhere between 120 and 160 characters. This is what people will see on the search engines when your page shows up in the results. Make sure that one or two of your keywords are in the description. Then fill in the Keywords field with your keywords, the same keywords that you found in your keyword research. Finally, you can put a shorter title in the Menu Label field.

Finish and Publish Your Page

We are almost done with your new page. First we need to set the parent field if appropriate. For example, in the videos I created a new page for the Aqua Pour replacement parts, so I set my Aqua Pour page to be the parent for my new page. If you are promoting a product and you have a picture of the product linked to your PWP site then it is a good idea to add the “Buy Now” button.
Now you can click the Publish button and make your page visible to the world. It is always a good idea to make sure that all of your links work correctly and to read over your page one more time to catch any errors.
