Last time we starting talking about syndication, getting your blog posts out to other websites so that it can be seen by a larger audience. Twitter is a great place for that, as we also talked about last time. Another great place to share your posts is on Facebook.
What is Facebook?
Most importantly for sharing your content, Facebook is the website that gets the most traffic. This means that your post has the best chance to be seen by real people on Facebook and the search engines will see it and take notice, especially if other people start “liking” it or commenting on it. I think you are also more likely to have stronger connections with your friends and followers on Facebook, so I believe that you will get better quality traffic.
The first thing that you need to do with Facebook is to create an account and set up your profile if you don’t already have one. If you don’t have a Facebook account yet, go to www.facebook.com and fill in your first and last name, email address (twice), a password, select your gender and birthday, then click Sign Up. Follow any additional prompts that they give you then you are ready to fill out your profile. If you already have an account then go ahead and log in to it now. In this video we take a look at what needs to go in your profile.

How to Syndicate Your Blog on Facebook
Now you are ready to syndicate your posts to Facebook. For Twitter we used a plugin to push out content out so that it showed up immediately. I don’t use a plugin for Facebook. Instead I use an app on Facebook called NetworkedBlogs that gives us a widget so that people can “follow” our blog as well as pulls our blog posts to publish them on our wall. The next video shows you how to get all of this set up.

The widget from NetworkedBlogs is great for creating social proof. The more people who follow your blog, the more that additional people will read and follow your blog. The best example I have heard of the power of social proof is this: if you are in a new town and looking for a place to eat, would you go to the restaurant that had a parking lot full of cars and people waiting at the door, or the restaurant with only 2 cars in the parking lot? The full parking lot and people waiting gives you the impression that that restaurant is the better one.
With that in mind, let me know once you have the widget installed and we can follow each other to get that social proof started.
Congratulations! You are now all set up to automatically share your new posts on your Facebook wall so that all to your followers can see it. You will go through the same process for every blog that you create in the future.
Your Readers Can Like Your Posts Too
The readers on your blog can also “like” your posts to share them with their followers on Facebook. The like button also can create more social proof because it can show the number of people who have liked the post so far.
The following video shows you how to install and configure the Facebook Likes You plugin.

You are now thoroughly connected to Facebook.
Next Time
We have talked a little about widgets and settings for several plugins, but we haven’t looked at any of the widgets or default settings (other than permalinks) within WordPress. Next time we will go back and take a look at them.
Talk to you again in a few days.
